The Hollywood Sign Trust is a California 501(c)3 non-profit organization. The purpose of the Trust is to physically maintain, repair and secure the Hollywood Sign; to educate the world about its historical and cultural importance; and to raise the funds necessary to accomplish these projects.

The Trust is comprised of nine men and women whom the State of California has made responsible for pursuing the Trust’s mission. Two of these Trustees are designated by the City of Los Angeles – one with a three-year term and one with an indefinite term. The remaining seven members are appointed by the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce to three-year terms.

All donations to the Hollywood Sign are managed by the Hollywood Sign Trust on behalf of the people of California. These donations are completely tax-deductible. To make a contribution, click here.

Since its charter in 1992 the Hollywood Sign Trust has led a range of projects to preserve, protect and promote the Sign, including two major refurbishments, one in late 2005, and the installation of a state-of-the-art security and surveillance system, which has been expanded and improved numerous times. The Trust also operates the official Hollywood Sign web site ( and sponsors various local events and projects with an eye toward promoting Hollywood as the center of the global entertainment industry.

By protecting and preserving this towering treasure that is the Sign, the Trust helps strengthen its symbolic role as the beacon of the entertainment industry.

Q Can I touch the Hollywood Sign?

Unfortunately, you cannot. The closest you can get to the Hollywood Sign is up and above it and that location is accessible by within Griffith Park. The overlook of the Sign offers a unique view of the Sign and incredible views of Los Angeles that can span from the ocean to downtown LA and beyond on a clear day.

Q Do you offer tours to the Hollywood Sign?

We do not offer any tours to the Sign and if you see any advertised, be sure they go to legal viewpoints and locations to avoid any complications.

Q Is there a cost associated with visiting the Hollywood Sign?

There is no cost to visit the Hollywood Sign. Please be aware of parking costs but since the Hollywood Sign sits within Griffith Park, it is free to visit legal and safe viewpoints of the Sign.

Q Can I have a photo shoot or film shoot at the Sign?

You can find more information about filming or photographing the Sign here. Any commercial project requires both a filming permit and a licensing fee. Or if you are with a news organization, please contact us directly.

Q Can I see the Sign via public transportation?

You can see the Sign via the DASH Observatory bus service, which runs to viewpoints in Griffith Park every 20 minutes, seven days a week. You can board the bus at the Metro Red Line Vermont/Sunset Station or at stops along Hillhurst Avenue in Los Feliz Village. Click here for more information.

The Sign sits within Griffith Park and operates with the same hours. Griffith Park is open from sunrise to sunset.
